In the San Diego River watershed, natural reserves and public forests in the mountainous areas serve as biodiversity hotspots and potential wildlife corridors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"497\" data-end=\"988\">To better understand how these species move through and utilize the landscape, I operate a network of 18 strategically placed camera traps across the watershed. This non-invasive monitoring system captures presence, behavior, and movement patterns of elusive and primarily nocturnal carnivores such as the mountain lion (<em data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"833\">Puma concolor<\/em>), bobcat (<em data-start=\"844\" data-end=\"856\">Lynx rufus<\/em>), gray fox (<em data-start=\"869\" data-end=\"895\">Urocyon cinereoargenteus<\/em>), and American badger (<em data-start=\"919\" data-end=\"934\">Taxidea taxus<\/em>), among others\u2014species that are rarely seen directly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"1321\">The spatiotemporal data collected help identify movement corridors, breeding areas, activity patterns, and home ranges, as well as detect the presence of invasive species.
